Harvard University champions AI for conserving endangered species

A team of scientists from Harvard University have published an article about the benefits of Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ARTs) for animal breeding and biodiversity conservation.

ARTs are increasingly being used to bolster population numbers and protect endangered species, like polar bears, from extinction.

ARTs can allow the introduction of genetic diversity into a population from individuals that cannot breed naturally, individuals that are geographically separated, or even those temporally separated if gametes have been specially preserved.

ARTs include artificial insemination, in vitro fertilization (IVF), and cloning, amongst others.
